With how much content is coming out nowadays, it’s hard to feel excited or surprised about a specific skater. But every now and then, you’ll come across someone who has style, trick selection and a good attitude, three things that are essential in jumpstarting a career in skateboarding in this day and age. New Balance Numeric Asia has found those three traits within an up and coming girl skater from the Phillipines, and has been taking her on tours, video projects and demos. If you’ve followed our New Balance Numeric #KnowTheLedge# contest last month, you’ll know that the skater we’re talking about is Margielyn Didal, an absolute girl ripper from Cebu City who will surprise you with trick selection with each line she puts out. If you aren’t familiar with her yet, you’re just in luck. We had the chance to sit down with her and talk about how she started skating, balancing skateboarding and working as a street food vendor, and also her future skate goals. 我第一次是从我的朋友Dani Bautista那里听说Margie的，他当时去宿务上大学，跟我说有一个小女孩经常会去宿务的滑板场看滑手们滑板，所以他的朋友Demit就组了一套旧板给那个小女孩让她能够开始滑板。一些年过去了，我在菲律宾的朋友都会跟我说起Margie出色的滑板天赋以及鲜明的个性。 如今，Margie是我见过的最出色的女滑手之一，然而性别根本不是问题，她的确是我最喜欢的滑手。我很荣幸她能够成为New Balance family的一份子，也很高兴能够见证她旅途的开始。

I first heard about Margie from my friend Dani Bautista who went to University in Cebu. He told me about a little girl who would always hang around the skatepark in Cebu to watch the skaters and how his friend Demit set up an old board so she could start skating too. Over the years other friends in the Philippines would tell me about Margie’s talent on a skateboard and her bright personality. Today Margie is one of the best girl skaters I’ve ever seen but that alone doesn’t define her, she’s really one of my favorite skaters regardless of gender. I’m honored that she has chosen to be part of the New Balance family and happy to be able to witness the start of her journey.

I think its cool that both Margie and Small Watermelon skate real good and have great attitudes. I can also tell that they are both very passionate about skateboarding and want to push themselves to get better. Recently we been on a bunch of trips filming working on a short video to basically introduce the NB# Asia team to the public which should be dropping soon! Skatehere: 先简单介绍你自己！

Margie：我的名字是Margielyd Didal，来自菲律宾宿务，现居住在宿务市Lahug。现在我是暂停学业的状态，但我会尽快地回到学校继续学业，与此同时我在帮助家人在宿务卖天妇罗和炸蛋之类的街边小吃。我的赞助品牌是New Balance Numeric 亚太地区、852滑板，ACE滑板桥和ARES SKATESUPPLY。最近我正在与NB Numeric的队友们一起旅行和拍摄，也在申请我的美国以及中国大陆的签证，为将于六月或七月份在美国WOODWARD营地的活动还有九月份的亚洲滑板冠军赛做准备

Skatehere: Could you start us off with a short intro about yourself?

Margie: My name is Margielyn Didal, I’m from Cebu City, Philippines. I live in Lahug, Cebu city. As of now I’ve stopped my studies but am trying my best to get back soon. I’m also helping my parents too, like I help selling some street food (Tempura and kwek-kwek) in Cebu. My sponsors are New Balance Numeric Asia, 852 skateboards, Ace Trucks and Ares Skate Supply. I’m travelling on filming missions and meeting other NB# riders as well as working for my visa (US and Mainland China). For my US visa is the upcoming event of WOODWARD CAMP this June or July, and Asia Skateboard Championship in September for my mainland China visa.

Skatehere: 你是怎样开始滑板的

Margie：我以前对滑板感到很好奇，看起来觉得很好玩。我是在12岁（2012年）的时候开始滑板，我的第一块滑板是我的偶像、现在也是我在NB# 的队友Demit Cuevas 给我的一个圣诞礼物。我以前是用Demit 的旧板面，尺寸是8.25，然后我的滑板桥是5.0（7.75）

Skatehere: How did you initially get into skating?

Margie：I’m just curious about skateboarding before and it looks fun. I started skating when I was 12 (2012); I got my first skateboard when Demit (my idol, my teammate in NB Numeric) give me a Christmas present. I used the old boards of Demit before and it was size 8.25 and my trucks were 7.75.

 

Skatehere：滑板给你的生活带来什么样的变化

Margie：从我开始滑板到现在确实是一个很大的变化，因为我认识到了很多人，还能到不同的国家旅行，见到了说着其他不同语种的人们

Skatehere：What has changed in your life after you started skating?

Margie：There is really big difference after I started skating; now I meet a lot of new people and can travel to different countries and meet people with different languages.

Skatehere：聊一下你最喜欢的滑手

Margie：在菲律宾，我欣赏的男滑手有Jeff Gonzales, Demit Cuevas, Jan Barney，女滑手是Sheilea 和Jessica Ryon。其他国家的有Louie Lopez, Nyjah Huston, Lacey Baker 和 Leticia Bufoni

Skatehere：Tell us about some of your favorite skaters?

Margie：Local – Jeff Gonzalez, Demit Cuevas, Jan Barney, Sheilea and Jessica Ryon. International – Louie Lopez, Nyjah Huston, Lacey Baker and Leticia Bufoni

 

 

Skatehere：能分享你在比赛或者拍摄时候的经验吗?

Margie：当我比赛的时候，我感到很兴奋同时也会紧张，特别是在别的地方或者国家。我想每个人都会有差不多的感觉，但对我来说，当轮到我的时候，我就尽情地享受滑板的线路还有我成的每一个动作，特别要提到的是我pop板时候的声音是让我很享受的。如果你成了，大家会热烈欢呼，我会觉得真的成了一个很棒的动作。作为一名在都是男滑手参赛的滑板比赛中的唯一女滑手可以得到名次，甚至有时候能赢，我感到很荣幸

Skatehere：Can you share with us some of the experiences you’ve had at competitions or during filming missions?

Margie：When I’m in a contest, I get so hyped but also a bit nervous, espcially in other places or countries. I think everyone can feel it, but for me, when it is my turn to do the line i’m just enjoying the line or every trick that i landed, espcially the sound when i pop the board. When you land a trick, everyone cheers with encouragement, it feels like you did a really good one. I feel honored that i’m the only female entering a male category, and can still place or even win.

Skatehere：在你看来，对滑手来什么方面是最重要的?

Margie：身为滑手态度是很重要的，特别是与其他素未谋面的滑手认识的时候。如果你身为滑手没有一个好的态度，风格和动作再好也不会受到尊重。风格其实也很重要，如果你有一个好的动作但是你没有风格，做出来就不会好看。招式也是挺重要的部分，因为你没有动作那么也就谈不上是一个滑手，那对滑手来说是很特别的一个组成部分.

Skatehere：What do you think is the most important thing to know as a skater?

Margie：Attitude is important as a skater, especially when meeting new friends and at the end of the day, style and tricks are not very important if you don’t have a good attitude. Style is also an important part to a skater cause if you have a good tricks but you don’t have a style, it doesn’t look good. Trick is a quite an important part cause if you don’t have a trick then you are not a skater, that’s the special ingredients of skater.

Skatehere：你最喜欢做的滑板招式以及滑板片段?

Margie：之前喜欢的动作是正向50-50尖翻出 和反向 50-50大乱出。现在的话是正向k-grind 和反向late kickflip出。 我喜欢Paul Rodriguez在“We Are Blood”里面的个人部分

Skatehere：What is your favorite trick and video part?

Margie：My favorite trick used to be frontside 50-50 kickflip out and backside 50-50 360 flip out. But now it’s F/S k-grind and B/S 50-50 late heelflip out. My favorite video part of all the time is P.ROD ‘s part in “We Are Blood”.

Skatehere：你现在穿的鞋子款式和型号是什么？最喜欢的款式和型号呢?

Margie：我现在穿两种款式的鞋，硫化245和345还有cupsole 868. 我都很喜欢。因为我滑台阶和gap穿868，我的脚踝受伤之后穿868滑会舒服一些，鞋垫会有针对脚跟的减震。真的很舒服，（妈妈再也不用担心）我滑台阶和gap的时候再也不用担心伤痛的困扰。硫化245或345比较适合石台或者平地，因为我能感觉得到板面从而更好地做翻板动作

Skatehere： Which type of shoes have you been wearing, which ones are your favorite?

Margie：I’m wearing two types of shoes, the Vulc 245 & 345 and the Cupsole 868. I like them all. I usually wear 868 when I’m skating stairs or gaps, they’re really comfortable to wear; like now I have an injured ankle, but the 868′s have something under the sole to for anti heel bruising which makes skating in them so much better. They’re really comfortable, I’m not bothered about my ankle anymore if I’m skating stairs or gaps. The Vulc 245/345 is good for ledges or Flatground because I can feel the board and flip it easily.

Skatehere：你喜欢的音乐风格和着装类型是什么?

Margie：我喜欢的音乐是偏向放松和嘻哈，因为我比较匪帮哈哈。Rae Sremmurd（美国嘻哈组合）的专辑还有Big Baby D.R.A.M的Broccoli. 我喜欢穿New Balance和852的短袖和汗衫，以及一些volcom的衣服，感觉穿起来很舒服，特别是我滑板的时候

Skatehere：What is your favorite music kind and clothing style

Margie：My favorite type of music is anything chill and sometimes also hiphop cause i’m kinda of Gangsta ahaha. I like Rae Sremmurd’s album and the Broccoli by Big Baby D.R.A.M. My favorite clothing style are shirts (New Balance, 852), sweat shirts and some Volcom clothing, they’re comfortable to wear especially when I’m out skating.

 

 

 

Skatehere：你在滑板这条路上未来的计划和目标是什么？能分享给其他滑手的一些关于滑板的想法吗?

Margie：我希望能成为菲律宾地区的第一位职业滑手。想对那些刚开始滑的朋友们说的是，就继续在街上还有板场上滑吧，不要放弃，特别是女生，年龄不是问题，只要充满爱和热情，你就可以滑板！

Skatehere：What is your plan with skateboarding in the future, do you have any words to share with other skaters?

Margie：I’m definitely working hard to be the 1st Filipina professional skater, and for those who just started skating, just keep pushing and shredding the streets and skateparks. Don’t give up especially for you girls, young or old, skateboarding is for everybody who has the love and passion for it.
